About me

My name is Jade Lee (she/they) and I am an AuDHDer, Neurodivergent Educator, Creative Therapist, Artist and Writer. I am also a former teacher (but still fully registered!) I am currently studying a Master of Autism and will then be able to gain registration as a Developmental Educator.

I have travelled extensively in Asia and have lived in Taiwan, Laos, Thailand and Japan. I spent nearly seven years living and working in Japan and this has been a major influence in my art and in my life.

I love cats, reading, listening to podcasts, binge-watching shows on Netflix and I do my best thinking when I am walking or laying on the floor in my study/studio.

About me cont...

To determine if I am the right person for you (and vice versa), I thought it was important to list some of my values. These are not an exhaustive list, nor are they in any particular order but they are the ones I believe are most important to my practice. They include:

-Honesty

-Self-expression

-Connection

-Empowerment

-Grace

-Passion

-Creativity

-Learning

-Resourcefulness

-Collaboration

I want people, including myself, to feel as though they can be honest and their authentic selves, unapologetically.

I believe in using self-expression in all its creative forms as a way of fostering connection. This can include what I wear and my use of art during a session. I also believe in empowering individuals and their families through self-determination to have autonomy and to feel competent and confident in their relationships and interactions with others. A recent addition for me is to extend the same grace I give to others with myself.

I am passionate about what I do and the people I work with, and I love using my creativity wherever I can. I also love learning and would keep studying forever.

I believe in resourcefulness as it is important for the environment and for today’s economic climate. I like to incorporate recycled materials in my art and want people to get value for their money with all my services.

Finally, I love working with like-minded souls, so if I sound like someone you want to work with, let me know and we can collaborate!

My logo

I wanted my logo to be a simple design portraying the message that I am very much a person who cannot and will not be put in a box and confined. The box is turned on its side to also represent a diamond which shows I value myself and others as precious objects but ones that are strong.

I used a bright red (my favourite colour) swish of paint that shows colouring outside the box is very much okay with me!

Finally, I chose a simple text that looks like handwritten printing to go over the top.

Neurodivergent Educator

As a Neurodivergent Educator, I provide lived experience as an AuDHDer as well as my knowledge from my current study. I will complete my Master of Autism in 2024 and be eligible as a Developmental Educator.

Using a neuro-affirming approach, I provide two main services: consulting and mentoring for both individuals and businesses either in person or online.

Consulting:

For individuals (including but not limited to NDIS participants/families or private clients and service providers) I provide tailor-made sessions/training that help to educate the person about neurodivergent awareness and understanding, neuro-affirming practice or a specific topic requested by the client.

These can be a one-off session or a series of training sessions.

$70/hr + Non-Face-to-Face Supports (flat rate of $20) and travel time and km (if in person).

For businesses, I provide the same services, but prices are subject to their needs.

Certificates of attendance are provided for training purposes.

As a former teacher, I am also available to work in consultation with leadership teams and their staff at schools to ensure they are providing neuro-affirming practices.

I was recently involved in some autism-affirming training with Kory Sherland from Autie Talk for the organisation, Empower Autism.

Mentoring:

For individuals (including but not limited to NDIS participants and their families or private clients and service providers) I provide tailor-made sessions that include goal setting, helping clients to develop self-advocacy skills, peer-support, transition plans or a specific topic requested by the client.

$70/hr + Non-Face-to-Face Supports (flat rate of $20) and travel time and km (if in person).

CreativeTherapist

As someone who is not keen on formal therapy (yep, going to admit it straight up!), I find Creative Therapies a good way for me to express myself. It can also be a way for me to communicate how I am feeling without using words. Creative Therapy can include Art Therapy, but it also extends to Drama, Craft and Writing.

Creative Therapies is for EVERYONE!

Depending on your needs, Creative Therapies may need to be used in conjunction with other forms of therapy. Always ask your medical professional if you are not sure if Creative Therapy is the right thing for you.

I offer a mobile service which is particularly good for those who may not be able to leave their house or feel safer in their own environment. I also offer online sessions for those who prefer that form or who may be in a different location from me. Sessions can either be 1:1 or in a group (limited to four people) and NDIS participants are welcome.

$86.79/hr + Non-Face-to-Face Supports (flat rate of $20) and travel time and km (if in person).

If you want a taste of Creative Therapy, why not try my online course for an introductory session on relaxation techniques or even a Mini Pep Talk to find your creative spark?

Artist

I am a multidisciplinary artist who finds that my medium depends on the message I want to send. I particularly like types that do not necessarily have a permanent form. This includes performance art and is very much about being in the moment.

I am very conscious of the environmental impact that some mediums have and I believe we need to start reusing materials and even recycling art we make. This is why my use of cardboard has become a signature element of my work.

I want my work to show people that there is more to art than just fine art and that one type is not superior to another. I also want people to realise that not all art has to hang in a gallery.

I also believe that everyone should have access to art. I want everyone to be able to create art and in that way, I guess one of my techniques is to democratise it. I create art that has a message or makes people question their own identity, culture, social and political views.

To see some of my artwork from 2023, click here to access my gallery.

I have also studied screenwriting and filmmaking and my short film, ‘Skies of Home,’ was selected as a finalist for the CQ Shorts in the 2023 Capricorn Film Festival.

I am always interested in new projects and collaborations so feel free to contact me.

Writer

I have been a writer for as long as I can remember. I have written poetry, short stories, non-fiction articles for expat newsletters and even a weekly column about convenience store food for a prominent English magazine in Japan. Today, most of my writing is either academic papers for university or Morning Pages.

I write on a range of topics including art and my own lived experiences as an AuDHDer. I also enjoying writing about political issues that relate to disability and inclusion.

I believe that writing can change the world for the better and so I believe as an advocate and mentor that I NEED to write.

I have also been involved in other facets of the writing world such as helping a local author to do research for a book and editing chapters for publication.

I am available for any of these services.
